MEMOIRS

Memories of memories

Remembrances are alive.
I imagine memory as a territory full of animals, living creatures that change and modify over time. Some are big and strong, in good health; others are neglected, weak and risk dying out. But sometimes you just need to concentrate to fish them out (memory is a sea full of fish) and bring them back into the light, fresh and darting, like new.

And then there are the memories of others, which have been told to us and have taken on another form within us. We don’t know the protagonists, we haven’t seen or smelled the places: we imagine them. We don’t know if it was sunny that day. Yet these stories have entered our memory, even if indistinctly, like certain dreams whose atmosphere and sensation we remember, but whose details elude us.
How many second-hand memories find space within us?

“Memoirs” collects the remembrances of others: memories of memories, collected by friends, writers, people I met briefly or constant and important presences in my life.
A journey into a ghostly yet deeply rooted world within us, a legacy of our encounters and our imagination.

A story still in progress.
