MATRYOSKHA
A friend once told me that it struck him to think that his children’s DNA was older than his own. It is a dizzying prospect, but in fact, it is true: coming into the world later, new DNA has longer and therefore older roots. Time and space mate in the mind in surprising ways and, as always, everything is determined by the point of view.
A Matryoshka is a grandmother who contains a mother who contains a daughter: a microscopic fragment of the great female chain that binds all the creatures that appeared from the earth and returned to the earth. They are little girls, because children are sprouts that keep all their future history, because all children contain the children of the future.
As stars seen from afar is one way of telling it, and the Matryoshka dolls are another, feminine one. They are pieces of the history of the same family and, together, of any family.
I look at them and think that the smallest one, which came later, is the oldest. I look at them and I think that if we could go back like this, woman before woman, up to the first woman, the Great Mother, she would be immense, so much so that she could contain all of humanity.
