Tendono alla chiarità le cose oscure (Dark things tend to clarify) is a small artist’s book born from the Retablos on the loose workshop done by four young former students of mine at the IED.

During a brief artist residency in Monterosso al Mare, precisely where the poet Eugenio Montale spent his holidays and wrote Ossi di Seppia, photographer Cinzia Laliscia and illustrators Lucia Carlini, Margherita Ferracuti and Giulia Lancellotti were able to work on the themes that mattered most to them at that time, creating small installations in nature, which they photographed.

In the end, I looked for loose connections between the photographs created by the four artists and the poems written by Montale 100 years earlier to bring together images and words born in the same few square meters of the world.

Tendono alla chiarità le cose oscure è un piccolo libro d’artista nato dal workshop sui Retablos on the loose di quattro giovani ex studentesse del corso che ho tenuto allo IED sulla ricerca della propria vocazione.
Durante una breve residenza a Monterosso al Mare, precisamente nei luoghi dove il poeta Eugenio Montale passava la villeggiatura e scrisse Ossi di Seppia, la fotografa Cinzia Laliscia e le illustratrici Lucia Carlini, Margherita Ferracuti e Giulia Lancellotti hanno potuto lavorare sui temi che a loro stavano più a cuore in quel momento, realizzando delle piccole installazioni nella natura, che poi hanno fotografato.
Alla fine ho liberamente cercato delle rispondenze tra le fotografie create dalle quattro artiste e le opere scritte dal poeta, 100 anni prima, per far incontrare immagini e parole nate negli stessi metri quadrati di mondo.
